Congressman Mike Rogers – Opening Statement on Healthcare Reform

Congressman Mike Rogers (R) from Michigan believes that the Heathcare Reform legislation proposed by the democrats is a “travesty”, that it presents a false choice – “this or nothing”.  He highlights some of the “unprecedented power” of the government in this legislation – including the ability of the government to disenroll individuals from their current health insurance and to disenroll entire businesses (with at least $250 K in gross payroll).  He also cites studies from Canada and Great Britain, where they already have government-run healthcare.  The studies indicate that with numerous forms of cancer, their citizens have a much lower chance of survival than in the U.S.  Why would we want to sacrifice the greatest medical care in the world to accomodate reform that doesn’t fix the real problems?
